Lick Mats

How durable are the lick mats?
Our lick mats are designed to be durable, but they should always be used under supervision. Remove the mat once your horse has finished and inspect it regularly for signs of wear.

What spreads can I use on the lick mat?
You can use any horse-safe foods your horse enjoys. Just remember to consider dietary needs or sensitivities, and consult your vet or equine nutritionist if you’re unsure.

How do I clean my lick mat?
It’s important to clean your horse’s toys after each use, especially when used with food. Rinse off any residue and clean with soap and water, or place it in the dishwasher. Ensure it’s completely dry before storing in a well-ventilated area. If your mat has carabiners, remove them before washing.

Can silicone stain?
Silicone doesn’t usually stain, but natural pigments in some foods may cause temporary discolouration. To minimise this, rinse and wash the mat after each use. For stubborn marks, try the dishwasher or natural cleaners such as baking soda or vinegar.

Safety:
Lick mats should be supervised to ensure safe and enjoyable play.

Hardware

How do I care for the brass hardware?
Our brass hardware is selected for strength and longevity. Over time, brass may oxidise and develop a blue-green patina. We love this natural ageing process and feel it adds character. To clean, wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly. If you prefer a polished finish, brass cleaner can be purchased from most hardware stores.

The Nibble Rope

Will the Nibble Rope stretch?
Yes, stretching is normal, especially with enthusiastic play. The rope will still hold treats, and you can also use side loops for added options. Hemp and cotton fibres naturally soften with use. Each rope is handmade, so some variation is normal.

How durable is the Nibble Rope?
Made from a strong hemp and cotton blend, the rope is designed for regular use. Inspect it often and replace it if excessive wear appears. Like all natural fibre toys, it is designed to be replaced periodically. This natural material also makes it a gentler, horse-friendly, eco-conscious choice.

How is the rope finished?
The rope ends are tucked securely into the weave, creating a durable finish. This also means treats can’t be pushed through the bottom, helping discourage horses from pulling at that area.

How do I care for my Nibble Rope?
Wash only if absolutely necessary, for example if it becomes heavily soiled.

  • Do not soak
  • Place in a delicate wash bag
  • Machine wash at 30°C
  • Air dry completely before reuse to prevent mould

Natural hemp and cotton fibres take longer to dry, allow several days depending on temperature and humidity. Occasional sunshine helps keep the rope fresh. Store in a clean, dry place when not in use. For safety and enjoyment, replace your Nibble Rope regularly.

Is the Nibble Rope sustainable?
Yes. The Nibble Rope is 100% biodegradable, meaning it will naturally wear faster than synthetic toys, making it a gentle, eco-friendly choice for your horse and the planet

Safety:
The Nibble Rope can be hung safely in stables or turnout areas under shelter and is suitable for independent play. As with any treat, always use common sense and consider your horse’s eating habits.

Enrichment

What is equine enrichment?
Enrichment refers to activities, objects, or feeding tools that encourage horses to interact with their surroundings; chewing, exploring, sniffing, playing, and solving small challenges. It supports a horse’s mental well-being in all environments, whether they’re stabled, on limited turnout, or living in paddocks with plenty of space.

Do horses really need toys if they’re out in paddocks?
Even outdoors, horses naturally chew, explore, and manipulate objects. Enrichment toys give them safe outlets for these behaviours, helping prevent boredom and supporting mental stimulation during quieter periods.

How do horses benefit from enrichment toys?
Enrichment toys let horses chew, explore, and problem-solve, keeping their minds active, reducing boredom, and easing stress. They’re a fun addition, not a replacement, for grazing, turnout, or time with friends.

Can I use enrichment toys in paddocks?
Yes. Many enrichment tools can be used outside as well as in stables. Placement matters. Hang them under cover or somewhere sheltered to prevent weather exposure.

Do horses need supervision when using enrichment toys?
Supervision depends on the product and the horse. Our Nibble Rope can generally be used without constant supervision when hung securely. Our Lick Mat is best used with supervision. Always monitor your horse the first few times with any new enrichment item to ensure suitability and safety.

Are enrichment toys a replacement for forage or turnout?
No. Enrichment never replaces natural needs such as grazing, movement, companionship, or herd interaction. Our toys provide a safe outlet to chew, explore, and play during short-term situations, bad weather, or injury recovery, supporting mental and emotional well-being.

How often should I offer enrichment toys?
There’s no set rule, some horses love toys every day, others only occasionally. Offer them as often as your horse enjoys.

Are the toys safe for all horses?
We use durable, non-toxic materials designed for equine use. As with any equipment, always check for damage and suitability for your horse’s needs.
